Terms & Conditions

Last updated: September 29, 2026

These Terms govern your use of Confession Compass. They are written in plain language — please read them carefully. You can also read what the app does and does not do.

1. Who we are

Confession Compass (the “Service”) is provided by RankRolo Limited (Reg. 78233372), a Hong Kong company with its registered office at 8/F, China Hong Kong Tower, 8-12 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong (“we”, “us”). Our team works from our office in the European Union, at Manufakturu g. 20, Vilnius, Lithuania. You can reach us at hello@confessioncompass.com.

That address is also our point of contact for users and for authorities under the EU Digital Services Act. You can write to us in English, Spanish, Portuguese or French, and authorities also in Lithuanian.

2. Acceptance of Terms

You accept these Terms when you create an account or sign in, as the notice under the sign-in buttons says. Our Privacy Notice explains how we handle your data. If you do not agree with these Terms, please do not use the Service.

These Terms apply to every user of the Service, on both Free and Premium plans.

3. Description of the Service

Confession Compass is a private, AI-powered educational and supportive tool. It helps users understand situations in their lives in the light of the teaching of the Catholic Church, prepares them for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and supports personal growth through Scripture, prayer, practical plans, a Companion chat, good-deed tracking and progress insights. Premium members can also take part in a Community where members see one another only by nickname.

The Service is an independent educational tool. It is not an official body of the Catholic Church and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any diocese, parish or Vatican institution.

4. Spiritual and Religious Limitations

The Service never absolves sins and never claims to do so. Absolution belongs exclusively to a priest celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

The Service never declares the state of any user's soul and never definitively declares that a user has, or has not, committed a mortal sin. Guidance on seriousness is educational, based on the Church's teaching on grave matter, full knowledge and deliberate consent, and users are encouraged to speak with a priest when in doubt.

Nothing entered into the Service constitutes a confession or is covered by the seal of confession, and the Service is not a substitute for the actual celebration of any sacrament or for spiritual direction.

5. Eligibility and Accounts

The Service is for adults only: you must be 18 or older to use it. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it and delete its data.

You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details confidential and for all activity carried out under your account. If you notice any unauthorized use, tell us immediately at privacy@confessioncompass.com.

One person may hold one account. Accounts are personal and may not be shared.

6. Plans

The Service offers a Free plan and a Premium plan. The Free plan includes one new journey a day, access to that day's journeys, the Companion chat, read-aloud, good deeds and your Growth page. The Premium plan adds unlimited journeys, your full history and insights, and the Community, where members see one another only by nickname.

Our team may also grant Premium free of charge, for example on request to hello@confessioncompass.com. We may end such a grant or give it an end date; your account then continues on the Free plan.

On the Free plan, your journeys from earlier days are kept, but only Premium can open them. Whatever your plan, you can still delete your own Community posts and leave the Community.

“Unlimited” means unlimited for genuine personal use. To protect the Service, every plan has daily limits: at most 20 new journeys and 100 Companion messages a day, and at most 2 journeys being prepared at the same time.

7. Premium Subscription and Payment

Premium is a subscription, paid monthly or every 3 months. Its prices are shown in the app, in US dollars, before you subscribe, and Stripe's payment page shows the total you will be charged before you pay. Where the law requires us to charge tax, it is added and shown to you before you pay. A promotion code, when we offer one, applies only as stated with it.

Payments are processed by Stripe, our payment provider. You enter your card or other payment details on Stripe's secure page: we never see them, and Stripe's own terms also apply to the payment. Your invoices are available in Stripe's customer portal.

Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, for a period of the same length, and its price is charged to your payment method until you cancel. You can cancel at any time, at no cost, from your profile (“Manage subscription”), which opens Stripe's customer portal; there you can also switch between monthly and 3-monthly payment, change your payment method and see your invoices.

When you cancel, your subscription stops renewing: Premium stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for, and your account then continues on the Free plan, with your journeys kept.

Payments are not refunded, except where the law requires it. In particular, if we stop offering Premium or the Service, or close your account for a reason that is not your fault, before the end of a period you have paid for, we refund the unused part of that period.

If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can withdraw from your Premium subscription within 14 days of subscribing, without giving a reason: write to us at hello@confessioncompass.com (for example, “I withdraw from my Premium subscription”, from the email address of your account), and we refund your payment in full within 14 days, to the card you paid with. In Brazil, the same applies within 7 days (Consumer Defense Code, art. 49). After that, the refund rules above apply. This doesn’t affect your other rights as a consumer, including your rights if Premium doesn’t work as described.

We may change the price of Premium. We will tell you by email at least 30 days before a new price applies to your subscription, and it applies only from your first renewal after that notice. If you don't accept it, you can cancel before then and pay nothing more.

If a payment fails, Stripe tries again over the following days, and Premium continues meanwhile; the app asks you to update your payment method. If the payment still can't be taken, your subscription ends and your account continues on the Free plan.

8. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with its intended purpose. You must not:

attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' data or to the Service's systems; attempt to identify, expose or harass other users; use the Service to generate content that promotes harm to any person; scrape, reverse-engineer, resell or commercially exploit the Service or its content; or interfere with the operation of the Service.

In the Community, keep to kind and supportive words. Posts, replies and nicknames may not contain email addresses, phone numbers or links, nor anything that could identify you or anyone else. Members can report posts and replies, and our moderators may remove any that break these rules.

Because the Service is designed for private, personal use, each user sees only their own private data; in the Community, members see one another only by nickname.

How we moderate the Community: an automatic filter refuses posts, replies and nicknames that contain email addresses, phone numbers, links or certain harmful phrases, and tells you why so you can reword them. Members can report posts and replies, and our moderators — people, not algorithms — review each report. They may remove anything that breaks these Terms or the law, and we may suspend or close accounts that seriously or repeatedly break them. When we remove something you wrote, we will tell you why by email, and you can ask us to look at the decision again at hello@confessioncompass.com. Anyone, with or without an account, can report illegal content to that address: say where it is, explain why you believe it is illegal, give your name and email address (your name isn't needed to report child sexual abuse material), and confirm that you believe in good faith that your report is accurate and complete.

9. AI-Generated Content

All guidance produced by the Service — teachings, analyses, plans, the choice of prayers and passages, Catechism reading summaries, insights and Companion replies — is generated by artificial intelligence (Google's Gemini models) and may contain errors or omissions. The Companion is an AI system, not a person, a priest or a counsellor.

AI-generated content is educational and supportive, not authoritative. Where it touches matters of faith and morals, the authoritative sources are the teaching of the Catholic Church, the Catechism, Scripture, and your pastor or spiritual director. Always verify important matters against those sources.

Scripture passages are quoted from the Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible, in English, and prayers are traditional texts. Catechism references link to the Catechism's official English text on Catholic Culture (catholicculture.org); Catechism readings are summaries, not quotations.

10. No Professional Advice

The Service does not provide medical, psychological, psychiatric, legal or financial advice. It is not a substitute for therapy, counseling or treatment of any kind.

If a situation you describe involves a risk of serious harm to any person — including violence, abuse or thoughts of self-harm — seek immediate real-world help: emergency services, a doctor, a mental-health professional or a trusted person. The Service is not an emergency service, and its guidance never replaces such help.

11. Intellectual Property

The design, text, branding and code of the Service are protected by intellectual-property law. You retain full ownership of the situations, good deeds, messages and Community posts you enter (“Your Content”).

You grant the Service only the limited right to process Your Content as needed to operate the Service for you, and to show your Community posts and replies to Community members under your nickname.

Scripture passages come from the Douay-Rheims Bible, which is in the public domain. Prayers are traditional Catholic prayers, in the wording commonly used in each language. The Catechism of the Catholic Church is © Libreria Editrice Vaticana: we link to its paragraphs, and our AI summarises them in its own words; we do not reproduce its text.

12. Privacy and Data

Your Content is private to you: other users can't see it, except what you post in the Community under your nickname. We never sell your data, never use it for advertising, and never allow it to be used to train AI models.

We run the Service on Google Cloud and Firebase, which process your data on our behalf, under contract. A small number of authorised administrators may view records only to fix problems, and every view in our admin tools is logged.

You can delete your good deeds and your own Community posts in the app at any time.

To delete your account and everything in it, use “Withdraw my consent and delete my account” in your profile, or write to privacy@confessioncompass.com: the deletion is completed within 30 days. Write to the same address for any other request about your data. The Privacy Notice describes our practices in detail.

13. Disclaimers

To the extent the law allows, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted availability or error-free operation. This does not affect the rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded.

We do not warrant that the AI-generated guidance will always be accurate, complete, pastorally appropriate or suitable for your specific situation.

14. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability that the law does not allow us to limit or exclude — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for gross negligence or wilful misconduct — or your statutory rights as a consumer.

Subject to that, and as far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for decisions you make in reliance on the Service's AI-generated guidance, and our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and 100 US dollars (or its equivalent in your currency).

If you are a consumer in the European Union, the United Kingdom, Brazil or any other country whose laws do not allow these limitations, the previous paragraph does not apply to you, and we are liable as those laws provide.

15. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. To have your account deleted, write to privacy@confessioncompass.com: the deletion is completed within 30 days. Deleting your account also cancels any Premium subscription, without a refund for the current period; to be sure it doesn't renew in the meantime, cancel it first in your profile.

We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these Terms, abuses the Service, or puts other users or the Service at legal risk. Unless the law or someone's safety prevents it, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond, and you can still ask for a copy of your data.

When an account is deleted, Your Content is deleted with it, as the Privacy Notice describes.

We may also stop offering the Service. If we do, we will tell you by email at least 30 days in advance, so you can ask for a copy of your data before we delete it.

16. Changes to the Service or the Terms

We may modify the Service, its plans or its features at any time, and may improve or adjust AI behavior over time.

We may update these Terms, for example when we add features or paid plans, or when the law changes. We will tell you about material changes by email at least 30 days before they take effect (sooner only where the law or safety requires), and the app will ask you to accept them before you continue. If you don't agree, you can stop using the Service and ask us to delete your account. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed.

17. Governing Law and Contact

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts of that country as well as in the courts of Hong Kong. We will bring a claim against a consumer only in the courts of the country where the consumer lives.

These Terms are available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French, and each version is equally valid.

If you are a consumer in the European Union, you can also bring a dispute to Lithuania's State Consumer Rights Protection Authority (vvtat.lrv.lt), which settles consumer disputes out of court, or to the consumer dispute body of your own country.

Questions about these Terms can be sent to hello@confessioncompass.com.
