Confession Compass is a private, AI-powered companion that helps Catholics understand their struggles in the light of the Church's teaching, prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and grow in virtue over time — reverently, and without judgment.
You will never see our named reviews — by design.
Confession Compass walks with people through the most personal matters of conscience they carry. Asking them to attach their name — or any identifying detail — to a public review would break the very first promise we make. So we never ask for it, and we never expect it.
If we ever make feedback public, it will be shared voluntarily and stripped of every identifying detail: no name, no account, no journey, no nickname. A quote from “a Compass user” is all you would ever know about them — and that is the point. It is the proof that the promise is kept.
What Confession Compass does
Guides you through a situation
When something weighs on you, the Compass privately analyzes it and builds a complete journey: a summary, what the Church teaches about it, and how serious it is.
Grounds its teaching in the Catechism
Teaching refers to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, with links to each paragraph of the Catechism's official English text on Catholic Culture (catholicculture.org). Catechism readings are summaries written by the AI, not quotations, so check them against the Catechism itself.
Uses authentic Catholic Scripture
Each journey offers three passages from the Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible — one to recognize what went wrong, one for repentance and mercy, one for practical change. Their text comes from the Bible itself, never from the AI.
Prepares you for Confession
You receive an examination of conscience for your situation and simple, honest guidance for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Helps you change
A concrete prevention plan, steps to repair any harm caused, and a checklist of next steps — tracked so you can see your progress.
Keeps everything private
Your journeys, good deeds and conversations are private: no other user can see them. They are processed for us by Google Cloud under contract, and they are never used to train AI, never sold, and never used to judge you. A small number of authorised administrators may view records only to fix problems, and every view in our admin tools is logged.
Speaks your language
Guidance is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French, and can be read aloud.
What Confession Compass does not do
It never absolves sins. Only a priest, in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, can absolve. The Compass only helps you find the path toward that sacrament.
It never declares the state of your soul, and never definitively declares that you have — or have not — committed a mortal sin; that discernment belongs with you and your priest.
It does not replace a priest, spiritual director, therapist or doctor. For mental-health, medical or legal matters, please seek qualified professional help.
It is not an emergency service. If you are in danger or thinking of harming yourself or others, contact emergency services or a trusted person immediately.
It is not confession itself. Nothing you write here is a confession or is protected by the seal of confession, and nothing in the app substitutes for actually receiving the sacrament.
It is not an official body of the Catholic Church and is not affiliated with any diocese — it is an independent educational tool.
A word about scrupulosity
If the same fears or doubts about sin trouble you again and again, you may be suffering from scrupulosity, and you are not alone. The remedy the Church has long trusted is to choose one regular confessor, tell him about it, and follow his guidance with confidence, even when your anxiety says otherwise. Confession Compass is not meant for analysing the same matter over and over: once you have brought it to your confessor, rest in his judgment and in the mercy of God.
How it works
You describe a situation in your own words. The Compass builds a journey: the Church's teaching on the matter, an honest look at its seriousness, Catechism references, three Scripture passages for recognizing, repenting and changing, a traditional prayer, confession preparation, a prevention plan and steps of repair — with a checklist you complete at your own pace.
Alongside journeys you can record your good deeds and follow your growth over time, to see whether your behavior is improving. A private Companion chat is available within each journey for continued support.
Theological sources: the Catechism of the Catholic Church (linked to its official English text on catholicculture.org), the Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible, and the Catholic Church's moral tradition. The Compass is reverent and non-judgmental, and never claims any authority that belongs to the Church or her sacraments.
The guidance and the Companion's replies are written by artificial intelligence (Google's Gemini models): the Companion is an AI, not a person. It can make mistakes. In matters of faith and morals, the Church's teaching and your priest have the final word.
Safety: when what you write suggests you may be in danger or thinking of harming yourself, the app shows emergency and crisis lines (such as 911 and the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the United States, and findahelpline.com elsewhere), the AI is instructed to answer gently and point you to real-world help, and the Free plan's daily limit never holds that journey back. If the AI cannot answer, the app shows the crisis lines instead.
